Mini Moderns launch part one of TRAVELOGUE

Entitled TRAVELOGUE, this collection draws inspiration from two decades of Mini Moderns field trips and holidays. Whether they’re travelling for leisure or research purposes, they’re always seeking inspiration for wallpaper designs. For this collection, they’ve made their journey the focus of their creative process.

They will release new designs in the TRAVELOGUE collection in stages. Here they present Part One: USA - three designs that represent their diverse experiences of American culture. Travel with them, taking in Californian mid-century architecture, via Manhattan, to a peaceful retreat in the Catskill mountains in upstate New York.

Catskills

After years of frenetic New York trips, they decided it was time to discover more of what the state has to offer. So they hired a car and drove to Willow in upstate New York. On the way they stopped off at Woodstock and Beacon. This wallpaper captures the atmosphere of that trip, staying in a little wooden cabin on Silver Hollow Road, in the shadow of the Catskill mountains. Various species of trees native to the area are represented in the print, including Red Pine, Eastern Hemlock, Yellow Birch and Quaking Aspen.

Available in 7 colourways:
Harvest Orange, Douglas Fir, Snow, British Lichen, Washed Denim, Midnight & Copper and Weathered Cedar
Catskills £60 per roll

Breeze

They have a thing about mid-century architecture, and their obsession has been greatly indulged on visits to places like Silverlake and Key West. They’ve even been known to book themselves on the odd architectural city tour. A detail that American buildings of the fifties and sixties employ to great effect is the decorative concrete block - and this humble construction material is the source of inspiration for this design.

Delving into a bit of research they discovered that in the US these blocks are known as breeze blocks. Inspired by sun screens in Asia, their decorative open structure filters out harsh sunlight whilst allowing the breeze to circulate. Printed on a luxurious mica base, these geometric beauties are tessellated at full scale, giving this wallpaper a stunning trompe-l’oeil effect.

Available in 5 colourways:
Washed Denim, Mustard, Tangerine Dream, British Lichen and High Tide
Breeze £70 per roll

Hey! Manhattan

The title says it all. This wallpaper is an unapologetically personal paean to their favourite city. Yes, it’s all about Brooklyn these days, but our hearts belong to Manhattan. Particularly the Lower East Side, where they have stayed since the nineties. Look closely at the abstract forms to discover two bridges, a couple of famous skyscrapers, their favourite music venue on the Bowery and an endless stream of traffic making its way uptown on Avenue A. The torn paper aesthetic lends an energy and immediacy to the design, capturing the vitality of the city.

Available in 5 colourways:
Washed Denim, Weathered Cedar (images included) Orchard Ochre, High Tide and Harvest Orange
Hey! Manhattan £65 per roll
