3daysofdesign 2024
For its 11th edition, 3daysofdesign once again captivated audiences in the Danish capital, bringing together over 350 global brands and emerging talent under this year’s theme, ‘Dare to Dream.’ Here’s what caught our eye:
Gubi
Gubi's “Tactile Encounters” invited visitors to explore the relationship between color and texture, featuring new furniture and lighting editions from designers like Pierre Paulin and Mathieu Matégot. Contemporary studios Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt and GamFratesi showcased their latest material innovations, while collaborations with Dedar and Sørensen Leather highlighted tactile beauty. Gubi also presented a collaboration with UNICEF, featuring their iconic Pacha Lounge Chair in surplus fabrics, supporting children worldwide.
Louis Poulsen
Celebrating 150 years of the First House of Light, “A Heart of Light” by artists Oliver Sundqvist and Frederik Nystrup-Larsen captivated audiences with their large-scale installation. The showcase featured early works, including Poul Henningsen’s Paris Lamp, and reinterpretations of Louis Poulsen’s best-loved pieces in matte white with pale rose interiors and brass accents.
TRANSCENDENCE
In Refshaleøen, “TRANSCENDENCE,” curated by architect Frederikke Aagaard, explored sustainable materials through dynamic installations and hands-on demonstrations. Set in a former industrial hall, the exhibit featured natural and recycled materials, offering a multisensory experience. Visitors engaged with sustainable design practices, showcasing the potential of innovative materials for a better future.
Danish Art Workshops
Bringing together 16 artists and designers in an exhibition curated by Birgitte Due Madsen, Danish Art Workshops highlighted collaborative craftsmanship and emerging talents. The exhibition showcased large-scale works developed in a nurturing environment, emphasizing the importance of artistic development in contemporary design.
Natural Material Studio
Natural Material Studio’s “White Utopia” installation in Refshaleøen reimagined domestic living through fluidity, a philosophy by founder Bonnie Hvillum. The full-size house installation used bio-based materials to challenge traditional norms and promote sustainable living. The spatial narrative encouraged visitors to reconsider their relationship with home objects, advocating for a more conscious approach to design.
