Surface View collaborates with the V&A
The Victoria and Albert Museum, the V&A for short, is considered the world’s leading museum of art and design. A British institution, the V&A is monumental in size and scope, with a permanent collection of more than 2.3 million objects, spanning a period of five thousand years. Visitors to the V&A will find many of the UK’s national collections, alongside collected works in the fields of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, and more. With a veritable treasure trove of art and design, the V&A seeks to enrich and enhance our understanding of the designed world.
Since its inception, Surface View has collaborated with a variety of museums and galleries—for example, the V&A, the Museum of London, the National Galleries of Scotland, and the New York Botanical Garden—curating and remastering a selection of their archives as premium window and wall coverings.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a marked effect on the numbers of daily visitors to museums and galleries. Surface View has therefore decided to focus attention on its sizeable collaboration with the V&A. Delving into the V&A’s extensive archives, Surface View uncovered an awe-inspiring world of art and design, including hand-painted chinoiseries, botanical studies, fashion photography, and William Morris wallpapers. Today, Surface View offers the discerning individual an opportunity to pick from a choice compilation of the V&A’s much-admired patterns, treasures, and designs, to place in a modern home setting. A percentage of each print purchased from Surface View’s V&A collection—indeed from every one of its gallery and museum collections—directly supports the institution.
Lauren Sizeland, Head of Licensing and Business Development at the V&A, comments: ‘We strive to bring the V&A’s rich archives to be applied to beautiful and high-quality products, providing decades of enjoyment to those who buy them. This activity generates commission, which is covenanted directly to the museum to help carry on its vital work in acquisitions, conservation, education, and the staging of amazing exhibitions for the public to enjoy in the future.’
When choosing images for the home, people are faced with a tyranny of sameness—a lack of variety. Surface View understands the importance of individual expression, of creating original, contemporary interiors that reflect our style and personality. Art is a perfect way in which to achieve this and Surface View offers something different, unique, and unexpected. Through its collaboration with the V&A, Surface View provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in this historic institution’s artistic archives.
Chosen by Surface View for their effortlessly stylish aesthetic, these prints are statement pieces that will elevate any home’s decor.
