Inspiring Portugal at the London Design Fair

It was a pleasure to see the very best of Portuguese design showcased in Inspiring Portugal this year at the London Design Fair. The inaugural Inspiring Portugal pavilion was a showcase over 20 designers, studios and manufacturers that represent the country’s flourishing industry and budding design brands.

Working with local materials and techniques is a common thread in Portuguese design, and this could be seen throughout the pavilion. Gencork has used cork to develop dramatic sculptural wall coverings, taking advantage of corks thermal, acoustic and tactile properties. While Leitão & Irmão, master jewellers and goldsmiths, have had workshops in Lisbon’s Barrio Alto district for over two centuries.

Inspiring Portugal was a testament to inventive design. The designs breath new life into the traditional techniques and materials of Portugal while at the same time remaining true to their design heritage. We look forward to seeing more exciting works from Portuguese designers in the future.

The Pavilion was well received, having been covered by publications such as The Evening Standard, Telegraph Luxury, The Sunday Times, Design Milk and Dezeen.
